Translating is an art…

It goes without saying that translating requires a proficient ability to write into the “target” language. What is not a foregone conclusion is that it also involves a deep understanding of the “source” language and of all its peculiar subtleties. For, to achieve the intended result with a high level of accomplishment, a proficient specialist translator ought to have a thorough knowledge of both languages, including advanced grammar and language functions. You ought to possess well-trained syntactic skills, extensive vocabulary, and even idioms, in both languages. Not as a nice-to-have – as a must-have. Even more so when either language is not your native tongue. And the task becomes particularly challenging when you write in a language you were not born into. Not only does this apply to general, non-specialist topics, this is chiefly true of technical texts, and especially of legal and sworn translation, not to mention literary translation.

Here, when venturing into specialist areas, you cannot do without a most accurate, critical grasp of the source text and of its intrinsic meaning, far beyond words and phrases. And, last but not least, you are expected to master a wide, bilingual portfolio of technical terms, expressions and concepts relating to the topics you deal with. To do all this requires a high degree of specialisation and long standing experience.

This is why, with a certified native level of English and French, having benefited from extensive, technical education in law, economics, business management, banking, accounting, finance and commerce; and – most of all – with competence accrued over twenty-four years into the most varied and distinct market fields, I can confidently tackle any translation with a high degree of precision and efficacy. This includes legal acts, notarial deeds, institutional documents, business/financial and fiscal/tax-related documents, all-round technical documentation, along with all types of documents to be rendered legally valid for use either in Italy or abroad through a sworn translation process (also known in Italy as “asseveration”).

Such reliable background empowers me to:
provide accurate and truthful translations which are never literal;
go beyond the most literal, simplistic sense of a word and get to its intended meaning both within and beyond the context;
communicate the information in a clear way, syntactically adapted to the target language and specialist area;
use the appropriate register for each individual field and case, ever taking due account of the concerned addressee and placing the utmost care on the language environment involved.
